Critter Cove has a colorful cast of characters that inhabit the world. Some of them will be the player's friends, while others will be their frenemies. There are two core types of characters the player can encounter within Critter Cove.
Townies[]
Townies is the general term for characters that either live on or visit Critter Cove. The player will encounter the same bunch of townies as castaways or as tourists.
Tourists will visit the player's island every few days, and will spend money at various shops, stalls, and activities on Critter Cove. These types of townies will be randomly selected from characters that are not already living on the island, nor currently a castaway.
Sometimes, tropical storms will cause a townie to become marooned on one of the various islands scattered across Critter Cove. The player must do a small quest before they can offer to bring that character back to the main island to live. Ferrying them back to the port is the main way they player will increase their town's population. After bringing a Castaway home, they will ask for a tent so they can set up their own temporary living space. While living in a Tent, they will live in Critter Cove just like a settled Townie, and the player can interact with them daily to increase their relationship with with that townie. After they reach 1 Heart of relationship, they will start looking for an unoccupied home to move into. Once they have a house, they're an official resident of Critter Cove.
All Townies come with a default set of clothes and a catchphrase, have their own unique likes and dislikes, and can be one of five personalities.
